De Hors again! October 24st 2010

Today René and I set out to De Hors again. Predictions were for sunshine and good constant northwesterly winds between 20 and 30 knots. And that's what we got. This time we even got the tide right. When we arrived at The Hors most of it was still under water. The small waves were already waiting for us and some seals too! The waves are not often big at The Hors: they just peel around the edge of Texel from the Northsea into the Marsdiep (the stretch of water that separates Texel from the mainland). But the waves are often long and clean and with side-off winds they are so much fun. Today Caren volunteered to make pictures after I begged her. Because the water was still high, she couldn't make it all the way to the waterfront where we were playing, but the pictures from far actually give a great impression of how special De Hors really is, and how lucky I am to have this spot in my backyard.

  1. He, silver surfer, how about a blog about the ride of today at the Cocksdorp. Any illegal activity there or not?

  2. Well, today we encountered the local law enforcement....René, Ron and I went to The Cocksdorp, a place where catamarans, small motorboats and windsurfers for decades just have fun on the water. Today, being November 4th and nasty weather, the place was empty. No one in sight. Deserted & very windy, all sane people on Texel stay indoors on such days. Comes a police car with one officer in it. The police officer wouldn't hear of it anymore! Enough of it. No windsurfing here! If we were to enter the water, we would be arrested. René said OK! And went windsurfing. The officer became annoyed and turned his authority on Ron and me. Ron and I took our pants off. This the officer did not appreciate. We said that we were doing nothing wrong (yet) and that he should jump into the water and catch René and drag him to jail. We even offered him one of our wetsuits. He had a better plan. He would fine Ron and me instead. Well, he couldn't just book us for our intention to go windsurfing, now could he? We were now getting cold with no pants on and asked permission to put on our wetsuits. We swore we wouldn't go windsurfing. We're just a couple of guys who like to dress up in rubber in the middle of f** nowhere, that's all. Ron was still a bit hesitant and said, well, I've got a birthday party at 5 pm, I'd hate to mis that sitting in a cell just for windsurfing. Ron likes windsurfing, but he likes birthday cakes too. Ron asked the officer what cake he liked best. The officer's upper lip did something very strange, I hadn't seen a human do that before! I complemented him on his facial talents. We at last called our legal counsel at MB Legal & Tax and he saw no objections. When we said that to the officer, he called the assistant district attorney and then said he would give us the benefit of the doubt. Joepie! And we had a great session!!! Texel is great!
